Music has been an essential part of Jake Jacobson's life throughout his 30-year career as a professional photographer, printmaker and jazz musician. During the mid-60s he operated a backyard print shop, producing rock concert posters that are now collectors' items.

During his distinguished career in advertising and editorial photography, Jacobson pioneered many techniques for special effects and printmaking. His continuing passion for photographing musical artists is evident in the extraordinary portraits contained within this book.

A graduate of Brooks Institute of Photography, Jacobson has taught photography at UCLA and Cypress College. He is also a longtime practitioner and teacher of Yoga and owner of the renowned Center for Yoga in Los Angeles. Jacobson operates a state-of-the-art photography, print making and videoproduction studio in the scenic mountains near Telluride, Colorado.

"When you play from the heart, you can't be out of t une,& quot; 12-year-old Jake Jacobson was advised by his clarinet teacher, a man who taught not only music but also lessons in life. The labors of love so evident in musical instrument making have always fascinated Jacobson, who now has combined his two greatest passions--photography and music--into this unique and monumental project:

"Heart & Hands-- Musical Instrument Makers of America."
